Cause

The most common reasons for injury to the upper body are:

  • Repetitive movement and posture problems
    • Especially repetitive working conditions with the arms above the head.
  • Poor posture, sitting and continuous standing can lead to:
    • Rounded shoulders
    • Tensed arms
    • Anterior head posture
  • Repetitive, non-versatile exercise and training
    • Especially racket sports (tennis, pingpong, badminton etc)
  • Trauma

Common symptoms

  • Sharp pain around the shoulders when lifting objects.
  • Shoulder pain at night
  • Pain in the arm and around the elbow
  • Pain around the elbow, especially when gripping and working with the hand
  • Swollen, warm and painful musculature

    • Clavicle fracture

  • Tendon and bursa inflammation/Impingment

  • Calcific tendinitis
    • Long term inflammation leading to scar tissue formation and calcification of the tendon.
  • Frozen Shoulder
    • Joint capsule inflammation – common with older underlying problems in the shoulder.
