Whiplash

What is Whiplash?

  • Whiplash injury may occur when the head or body are subjected to a sudden force or impact.
    • Most commonly occurs in Road traffic accidents and sports related impact.
  • The head will be forced into a forwards and backwards movement, with or without a twisting motion.
  • The effect of the trauma may injure the structures of neck and/or result in neurological deficits.

Symptoms

  • Pain and stiffness in the neck
  • Pain in the arms, shoulders and midback.
  • Pain, tingling, numbness in the arms
  • Headaches
  • Light,- and soundsensitivty
  • Dizziness, visual problems
  • Cognitive problems – memory and concentration.
