Concussion

Concussion

  • EBC specialises in examination, diagnosis and treatment of complex functional deficits and symptoms occuring as a consequence of imbalances in the nervous system, muscles and joints.
  • It is not uncommon that EBC are referred patients who have seen up to 15 Medical doctors and/or other healthcare practitioners previously.
  • The examination is very thorough and highly detailed. It consists of cutting edge evidence-based objective tests to find the underlying cause.

What is a Concussion?

The brain is surrounded and bathed in a viscous fluid called cerbro-spinal fluid (CSF).

The fluids job is to decrease friction between the brain and the inner-lining of the skull, as well as, dampen the movement of the brain within the skull after minor bumps and knocks to the head.

  • Impact to the head or body may exceed the ability of the fluid to keep the brain still which results in a bouncing and twisting impact of the brain against the lining of the skull.
  • The brain gets damaged by the impact which may lead to symptoms and functional deficits.

Symptoms

  • Headaches or a pressure in the head
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Dizziness and Vertigo
  • Vision problems
  • Light,- and sound sensitivity
  • Cognitive problems – memory and concentration

Early Diagnosis

  • 80-90% of all people suffering from a concussion will recover fully naturally, however, 10-20% do not recover without rehabilitation. Many people experience there symptoms a long time after impact occurred.
  • 380.00 cases per year will need rehabilitation to recover and enable a good quality of life again.
  • Repeated impact to the head has been found to cause degeneration of the brain and its functionality (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy)
  • It is therefore vital to receive a correct diagnosis at an early stage in order to best rehabilitate the functional deficits that appear.

Examination & Treatment

Commonly mainstream medical examination is without any abnormalities after a concussion because there usually is not any strucutural damage to the brain.

EBC are proud to offer a groundbreaking and unique examination and treatment applications for functional deficits within the nervous system.

Examination is carried out with cutting edge evidence-based objective diagnostic testing, as well as, a full neurological bedside exam in order to find the neurophysiological deficit.
